A new website, and news of some future events…
Welcome to my new website, designed once again by Jonathan Thompson who did such a great job last time. We have incorporated a few of the features from the last website, but lots of new material too.
Here you can see details of the two courses I will be running next year, one, my 29th! on the magical Hebridean island of Iona, and the other at beautiful Rydal Hall in the heart of the English Lake District. with brochures for both.

Swimming and Corncrakes; Iona 2025…
I was so transfixed by the beauty before me, looking out towards the Sound and the distant cliffs of Mull from the White Strand of the Monks, that I tripped over a rock and went in a bit quicker than I had anticipated! Happy days with inspiring writing, friendship and laughter and delicious food at the Argyll Hotel.

Rydal Hall this year was magical!
Rydal Hall 2025 was a very special weekend Writing Retreat, with the first day of the course, Friday 20th June, falling on the Eve of the Summer Solstice. I don’t think any of us will ever forget the powerful Meditation which took place on the Eve of the Solstice, in what we have always called the Om chapel, but also has a slightly less romantic name of The Grot! This tiny wooden building sits almost under a huge waterfall and a glimmering pool below it. It was a magical experience in the gloaming, half-light on the Solstice Eve with birds still singing in the undergrowth, presaging the longest day of the year on 21st June.

The Best 50p I ever did spend!
It all begins More than 43 years ago, when my children were small, I went to a village hall auction in Essex for some good cause and on a whim bought an old desk for 50p. No one else wanted it and my husband complained it would take three men to move it down the road, and where would it go in the house anyway?with an idea.
